Hello and welcome to The Bethell's web site this is for the furtherance of genealogical research and the history of the Bethell family
Our MissionTo research and link as many families in the worldwide Bethell family and promote mutual cooperation through out the world wide community of Bethell researchers, to share freely our research and history.
HistoryThanks to Dr David Bethel who has researched in depth the Bethell family history and traced it back to the North Wales King ,King Ithel of 775 ad and there some 17 derivatives of the family name Ithel Bithel Bythel Bethel Bethell Abethel Abethell. from Dr David's research we know the fortunes of the Bethell's over many centuries and the spread of the family from the most senior Lords and Ladies to the humblest farm worker the family has always had a strong link to military service and from Dr David's Book An Industrious People we have births and deaths around the world from the settlement of Australia to the modern soldiers sailors and airmen of the 20Th Century and the record's of the birth's in places like Aden Singapore, there references to my family who were farm workers in the villages of Hope under Dinmore, Bodenham, Wellington and the Leominster area of Herefordshire after leaving the land in the late 1800's the family became brewers working for the Hereford brewery and one was colour Sergeant of the Hereford regiment. The last known Bethell to leave the village of Hope-under-Dinmore is alive and living in Hereford and I am looking for her, to conclude over 300 years of history in the village. ( After 4 years of searching, Alas she has declined to take part and the link is now closed). Alas after searching and some indirect contact the lady decided she did not wish to be part of our research so I will have to add as much as I can in the future. January 2006 It is my sad duty to inform all the web site visitors of the sad death of Dr David Bethel He died in mid December 2005 after a long illness. This information was passed to me by his Daughter Ruth, He was a great inspiration and his work will live on in his book. February 2006 Ms Ruth Bethel has informed me that an exhibition of Dr David's art work will be on display at an art gallery in Bristol this will be updated as soon as I have more information. Limited edition prints will be available. Watch this space for further details. Dr David's Art Here now, see the header link. John B
